177. uncle fester?

30 junio 2010

This kid cracks me up! I didn't even recognize him when he walked in today! He looked like a zombie. HAHA. Apparently he had his face painted over the weekend like a pirate and fell asleep before they could wash it off. This morning they tried washing it off, but it stuck. Poor baby...but still quite hilarious. A mini Uncle Fester maybe? or maybe Lurch (the butler)?

29 June 2010

176. wicked!

29 junio 2010

My first time seeing Wicked!

Three words to describe my experience: A-MAZ-ING!

only complaint: there should be more bathroom stalls for women in the theatre. haha

28 June 2010

175. a case of...

28 junio 2010

...the Mondays.

RAWR!!

27 June 2010

174. 18 dummy.

27 junio 2010

This is dedicated to my little monster, oops i mean sister.

Happy 18th Birthday little one! You're legal (whatever that means...you can smoke & vote). Know that I love you. Now go out into the world and make something beautiful with your life!

26 June 2010

173. gotcha!

24 June 2010

171. yb

24 junio 2010

Day after day of field trips with the kids. I'm diggin' all the activities. Maybe the kids would actually be interested in staying in school...

Today field trip: ice skating at Yerba Buena Gardens.

The kids watch eagerly as the Zamboni clears the ice rink.

A somewhat clearer picture (keep in mind these pictures were taken with my phone):

23 June 2010

170. stern grove

23 junio 2010

Today was my first time at Stern Grove for a Kids Day program. Today's activities: African drumming!

We learned some dance moves from Senegal. Man, those guys can move! A lot of the dance moves reminded me of aerobic step workout moves combined with salsa and yoga. I was pooped by the end of the day.

22 June 2010

169. a walk in the clouds

22 junio 2010

While taking a walk around the neighborhood today, we ran into this awkwardly funny sign:

I did not see a dump in the fields that we passed by...and I hope my dump does not run...and whose number is that?

BTW "A Walk in the Clouds" is the title of a cheesy 90s romance/drama with Keanu Reeves. Why I like that movie, I have no idea.

21 June 2010

168. hair did

21 junio 2010

Oo wee! My kiddos have steez! Can you guess who's on the back of his head?

Answer: Iron Man. HAHA. Unique, that's for sure.

166. copa mundial 2010

19 junio 2010

¡Olé México!

Not that I keep up with the World Cup or anything...I just happened to pass by a celebration in the park for Team Mexico. Chyeaa.

18 June 2010

165. butter

18 junio 2010

See warning below:

Definitely NOT for children; more for the young at heart, haha.

164. life's a beach

17 junio 2010

One of the many perks of working at an after-school program & summer camp is going to the beach on a weekday. And special surprise of the day:

a HUGE washed up jellyfish. This makes me even more uncomfortable swimming in the ocean. Who knows what creatures you can come into contact with! Being stung once is enough for me, thank you.

16 June 2010

163. prim & proper

16 junio 2010

Found at an Indian restaurant:

I was told this was a religious goddess who is usually topless. Why would one tamper with a goddess' natural form add such a tacky top? Beats me, but it made for a pretty entertaining phone picture.

162. take some time

15 junio 2010

...to rest and smell the flowers :)

161. action shot

14 junio 2010

Another graduate of 2010:

Action shot. I thought the EXIT sign in the background was especially fitting.

160. my special graduate

13 junio 2010

To one of my favorite people in the whole entire world:

Congratulations babycakes! You made it through college. (WE made it through college.) The future looks brighter than ever and I hope I can continue to witness your (and our) journey. I'm so sorry I couldn't make it to the actual ceremony, but you know I love you. Thanks for everything. Cheers! And here's to many more years of happiness & success!

159. lei party

12 junio 2010

A graduation-lei-making party with my mom & friend. Complete with champagne.

158. reunited

11 junio 2010

...and it feels so good! One of my best friends is excited to graduate!

Can you tell? haha

10 June 2010

157. yo soy...

10 junio 2010

una bombera!

I will forever be entertained by these wooden cut-outs where you stick your face in and take a picture.

09 June 2010

156. solar power

9 junio 2010

I happened to visit my old high school with my sister today. Lo and behold what do I find: new overhangs being installed in the parking lot. And guess what...they have solar power panels on the roofs of said new overhangs!

WOW is all I can really think to say. I feel lucky (and uncomfortable) to have been able to be apart of a seemingly affluent neighborhood and school system, but at the same time couldn't the school (or district or county or state, etc etc) find a better way to spend money towards education? This is the same district that did not include sports in the budget. Granted, who knows. The solar power panels could be a donation or whatever...but it still makes me extremely uncomfortable that this high school has solar power panels (unnecessary right now in my opinion) while a couple blocks down the street there's another high school lacking buildings to house their students, up-to-date textbooks, desks, and quality teachers. Invisible borders manifest themselves in very apparent ways.

08 June 2010

155. empty

8 junio 2010

I was told to come into the office at 8am. Time: 9am. Office: EMPTY.

Uh-ohs.

07 June 2010

154. uot

7 junio 2010

Half of the infamous kiddies of UOT.

06 June 2010

153. blurry

6 junio 2010

I took this picture at the end of a [blurry] night.

Enough said.

152. veintitres

5 junio 2010

Feliz cumpleaños a mi amigo!

04 June 2010

151. geisha

4 junio 2010

Little geishas waiting to perform.

And btw geishas were not orginally Japanese courtesans or prostitutes. They were entertainers who performed classical Japanese music and dances.

Yay, I learned something new again today!

"Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn't learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn't learn a little, at least we didn't get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn't die; so, let us all be thankful."
-Buddha

So let's be thankful people :)

03 June 2010

150. margarita

3 junio 2010

I learned something new today. The Spanish word for "daisy" is "margarita." Muy interesante.

Unas margaritas en la escuela.

02 June 2010

149. dym

2 junio 2010

Having fun with impressionist paintings at the de Young museum

Mark's picture definitely wins.

01 June 2010

148. en la gasolinera parte II

1 junio 2010

Another "funny" (or should I say pun-ny? har har) ad at a gas station.

Seriously, who thinks of these things?

147. oh no they di'n't

31 mayo 2010

Oh yes they did! Gotta love the folks of Cayucos, CA.
