Get your kicks on Route 66, the "Mother Road" that connects Southern California to Chicago.
While walking down the street I glanced at this license plate and thought, "Wow! I've never seen that one before." I took a closer look and it turned out to be a souvenir plate attached to an old van. I imagine that van had an interesting history.

My one picture from the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago:
The gold men standing "guard" outside...Probably more posing than anything. Beh. I didn't get a chance to check out the actual pieces in the museum, but I did get to check out the foray and the store. It was still pretty cool to me, but what do I know. I'm a lowly California country bumpkin (but a damn proud California country bumpkin! haha).

So recently I've had some "lucky" experiences. I've gotten pooped on by a bird, I've seen a dragonfly pass by, and my palms were itchy (superstitiously meaning I'm going to receive money soon). I'm not normally superstitious, but apparently a lot of my co-workers are and they convinced me to buy a lotto ticket. So here it is... my first official California lotto ticket (Surprisingly, I've never bought a lotto ticket, although I have bought scratchers).
Cross your fingers! I'll let you guys know if I win, but if you can read the receipt it says my chances are 1 in 41,416,353. Awesome! haha

My first time trying a Klondike bar was anti-climatic. I, personally, would not do much for one of these babies. And it was even the Reese's Peanut Butter kind. Maybe if it was more peanut buttery I would've enjoyed it more...

It's said that every woman owns a "little black dress" as a staple part of their wardrobe. I, however, have no such dress. Although today I did encounter a sweet, bright, little piece* at Macy's and I shall call it my LRD (little red dress).
Hellllooooo, Red! Welcome to my wardrobe.
*It was a nice surprise when I found out at the register it was half off! Score!

I have a bizarre interest in trying new beverages, particularly juices, teas, & of course cocktails. Today I tried locally owned Purity.Organic's Strawberry Paradise. I was slightly disappointed because it was more lemonade than strawberry, not to say it was bad...I just thought the package was a bit misleading because it showed more strawberries than lemons. Yah know?
Eh, small kudos to my cousin and I for trying a new drink, supporting a local business, and supporting organic farmers.

At the De Young Museum I had the privilege to preview some of Discarded to Divine's collection for their upcoming auction to benefit people suffering from poverty, homelessness & domestic violence (btw thanks kim, DD advertising desginer extraordinaire, for the invite!). My favorite piece was from Sweet P, a former contestant on Project Runway:
Also, there was an odd surprise...
I met Jay Nicolas Sario from this season's Project Runway! A direct quote from Mr. Sario: "I don't smile in pictures." My bad, diva. Btw that model is wearing an original by Sario, decorated with Fuji water bottle scraps.

I swear B&N should just hire me already. I'm there browsing a lot of the time, I might as well be getting paid for it. More cool useless crap from Barnes & Noble.
Although this piece does disturb me a little. From the tag you can see that it is recycled magazine strips beautifully woven by "skilled artisan weavers" in the Philippines into a pencil holder. What that translates to is that it can probably be made for less than 50 cents, but they're exploiting my people and charging almost $10. Sweet.

90. slides and other things

Today my cousins and I (plus our German friend Chris) went around the city to various attractions. One stop on our list was the Bernal Height slides.
And my attempt at sliding down these babies was pretty hilarious. Too bad we don't have any video footage...
I was going so fast I was a blur on film...and then i face planted in the sand! No one took a photo-op of me face down in the sand HAHA. But we do have the aftermath picture:
I had sand everywhere! In my hair, in my mouth, in my eyes, down my pants, in my shoes. Yuck...but good times.
